Regarding the back-catalogue — I have taken to using automation to post links to my old medium articles on twitter. It turns out that between that and the chumbox, it’s possible for stuff that was popular when it was originally written to keep hooking in new readers.

Medium absolutely has a bias toward new content in its recommendations, but that doesn’t keep it from recommending the six or seven articles from five years ago that are totally irrelevant to my interests for weeks on end whenever the algorithm has decided I’m in the market for the political stylings of Arc Digital or need advice on how to lose a man in ten days or something. There must be a way to leverage this. I accidentally did, once: I wrote an ‘essay’ that was just a numbered list of things about epistemology and for a year, I got claps from users whose names were in arabic every day. Surely I tripped some kind of magic button that associated arabic numerals with arabic-speaking users & it was spamming those users with my post in their recs?

Be the mad bomber you wish to see in your men’s room.
