The lesswrong-adjacent folks putter around very visibly on the fringes of AI research while puttering around very visibly on the fringes of the far right, but since these folks have done very little besides be visible (and because AI really hasn't had major technical advances since the 90s -- beyond institutional support granting access to more and better hardware with which to run obvious elaborations of early 90s ideas like backprop and convolution), conflating lesswrongers and Elon Musk stans with actual AI researchers seems farfetched.

Is the concept of general intelligence problematic? Absolutely. Does it have problematic association with race? Yes. Does anybody doing real AI research even believe in it? Only if they are ignoring their own results! After all, even relatively general-purpose ML techniques require endless tweaking to even begin to be useful when applied to different domains, and this kind of tweaking is exactly what these folks do all day.
