Like, this sort of makes sense for the vulgar-marxism of Lenin-era propaganda pamphlets, aimed at a rapidly-industrializing proletarianized population (though even then, Lenin's main contribution -- the concept of the vanguard party -- went against the idea that communist revolution was by and for proletarians).

Marx & Engels correctly identified the proletariat as having the least to lose and most to gain from the collapse of capitalism, and promoted the idea of catering to them *from the outside* (as though with a vanguard).
